"Visit this old railroad either on a bike or on foot, and enjoy the impressive scenery, the remanents of the train, and taste and learn recipes of delicious local gastronomy offered by former train employees who will tell you about this place's history."
We will start by picking you up at your hotel to take you to Amagá, a town 1.5 hours south of Medellín where you will meet our local guide and decide if you will continue by foot or by bike. We will head to an abandoned train station to start the tour and go through hills, and train tunnels to arrive at our first gastronomic stop. Here you will learn about corn and traditional Arepas, a flatbread made from grounded corn. Our hosts here will explain the process required to turn corn into this delicious meal and will show us both the traditional method and the modern one. We will have the chance of making our own arepas and enjoy them with a hot chocolate and cheese before moving on.
After, we will cross a train bridge that has an impressive view as it is located over a creek and between two huge mountains. In the way, we will be able to see plenty of vegetation, impressive mountain ranges, and if you have sharp eyes, you will spot birds and even river crabs! Next, we will arrive at our next gastronomic stop where will taste Arequipe (a creamy milk candy), Bocadillo (a guava candy), and Mazamorra (a cold corn soup). Our hosts here will inform us about the train's history, and explain the recipes to prepare the products you just tasted. At the same place, we will visit a wood workshop with beautiful furniture and house ornaments produced with special types of wood.
Finally, we will head to our local's guide house to enjoy a delicious typical lunch as our last gastronomic stop. After this exquisite meal, we will return to Medellín to take you to your hotel.
