Somos un equipo de narradores y les traemos lo mejor que Colombia tiene por ofrecer. En nuestro blog, respondemos a las preguntas más frequentes y revelamos los místerios, la cultura y lo mejor para hacer en nuestro país para ustedes.

We know it is difficult to decide what to do in Colombia with such a huge offer of activities and destinations for your trip. However, these 10 are our top favorite activities that are definitely worth considering for your visit.

1. Scuba Diving:

Scuba Diver

With the second biggest coral reef at San Andrés & Providence islands, a whole National Park dedicated to underwater life at Rosario Islands, whales and sardines at Chocó’s Pacific Ocean Coast, and colorful fish at Tayrona National Park, Scuba diving is one of the best activities to do in Colombia. Any place you choose to visit will mesmerize you with its incredible beauty and unusual oceanic biodiversity.

2. Hiking:

Hike at Chingaza National Park

In such a biodiverse country with multiple ecosystems and mountains, hiking is definitively a rich experience to have. There are trails for everyone, with different difficulties that not only depend on the length and altitude profiles but on the specific traits of the destination you choose. From our typical Andean high-altitude Paramos to Amazonic tropical rainforests, deserts, fog forests, dry tropical forests, and even permafrost snow peaks, hiking will not only be challenging, but diverse and completely stunning.

3. Bird watching:

Toucan bird

Colombia is especially attractive for birdwatchers because it has the largest number of bird species in the world. With over 1900 species spread throughout our diverse regions and branched mountain ranges, you will find incredible birds anywhere you go to, even at cities. Birds in Colombia are known for their lively colors and unique shapes being the mighty Condor and the colorful Toucan and Guacamaya our most known birds.

4. Dancing:

Dancers in traditional dresses

Having a huge diversity in music genres, and dancing styles there is something for every taste. From Reggaeton and Champeta to Salsa, Cumbia, and Joropo, Colombia is a place to dance whatever you like wherever you are. Clubbing to electronic-cumbia in Bogotá, Salsa dancing in Cali, or Champeta dancing in Cartagena are just a few examples. Don’t miss the opportunity to go to a live show or a carnival and experience how Colombians really party.

5. Handcraft workshop:

Making Coconut Jewelery

Handcrafts are famous throughout Colombia, and depending on the place you are visiting you will find the opportunity to find an artist willing to show you the process to create an object. Just to name a few places and iconic crafts you can find like Ruanas from Nobsa (Boyacá), Pottery from Ráquira (Boyacá), Filigree from Mompox (Bolivar), Emeralds from Muzo (Boyacá), Wayuu Mochilas from Cabo de la vela (Guajira), Arwako Mochilas from Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Magdalena), and a huge etcétera.

6. Cycling:

Riding the bike through the historic streets of Mompox

The bicycle is a common transportation for Colombians. No matter the extremely hot weather, high altitude, or rough mountain trails that are found through the country, we are eager to give pedal! Multiple events like Ciclovía ( a day where roads are restricted for motorized vehicles to encourage sport) in major cities, or urban interventions like massive networks of bike lanes and free rental bikes, have made our cities bike capitals in South America and the World. Get on the pedals and live an amazing experience wherever you visit!

7. A day at the Beach:

Beach at Isla del Sol

We’ve got two oceans to choose from, and nice warm weather, turquoise seas, white sand beaches, and tropical cocktails that are waiting for you. However, it’s your decision if you want a deserted paradise beach or a lively music-filled beach with top service to spend an amazing day at the beach.

8. Heritage towns:

Town of Mompox

Travel into another time by visiting one of our many Heritage towns throughout the country. With well preserved distinctive architecture, walking through the streets is totally mesmerizing, photographs look superb, and the ambient is one of kind. With most of these towns located in departments like Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, Santander, and Bolivar, it is relatively easy to pay a visit before leaving Colombia.

9. Street food:

Delicious beef-stuffed empanadas

Colombia has a wide offer of street food, from whole breakfasts to ice cream, lunch, and basically whatever you can imagine and beyond. We have a strong culture of eating and buying things on the go as pedestrians. So many of our traditional foods are easily found on the streets of any city. Buñuelos, arepas, corn on the cob, carimañolas, obleas, empanadas, arepaehuevo, solteritas, bollos, are just a few examples.  Ask for a good place or take a street food tour, and you will taste what Colombians eat every day.

10. Coffee Tours:

Coffee Tasting at the Farm La Palma y el Tucan, Bogotá

We’re recognized globally as one of the best high-quality coffee producers in the world, producing exquisite flavors throughout our distinctive geography. If you are interested in the whole coffee process, you should visit a coffee farm and understand everything that takes to make a cup of coffee; from seed to the cup. If you’re more interested in tasting, maybe a preparation method experience is what you need to taste and differ our best coffees. You’ll be able to find these experiences in most major cities and regions throughout the country, no wonder why we are a coffee country!
