After the enormous effort made by the Peace Agreement signed in September 2016, which put an end to a conflict of more than 50 years and its eight million victims, Colombia is at a crucial moment that will mark the path for the decades to come. To understand the present, heal the wounds of the past, and build a solid fabric of peace for the future, it is necessary to look at ourselves from another angle and understand the tremendous complexity of our history and the contradictions that have been part of us.
"Weaving Peace" is our way of addressing a central part of Colombia's history and present moment in a fun, interactive, and didactic way. Whether you're interested in history and politics, or simply culture and gastronomy, this is for you. We have designed this tour with the help of academics, artists, change-makers, and chefs to make it MANDATORY for all travelers coming to Colombia.
This tour visits different key points in downtown Bogotá, walking along Avenida Jiménez towards Plaza de Bolívar, learning about all the history these streets hold, and trying some of its food. Arrive at the Fragmentos space, an anti-monument by renowned Colombian artist Doris Salcedo that speaks about the transition to peace (gallery closed on Mondays). Delight in visiting a selection of stops to absorb stories of hope through ice creams with unique flavors and exquisite chocolates.
The Full Experience 6 hours (see add-on on checkout) includes hotel pickup and dropoff and a couple of extra stops: a visit to Casa de la Paz, an open for dialogue space where we will taste craft beer made by former FARC combatants and hear about their process to incorporate back into society and have a chance to know more about the entrepreneurships arising from the peace process. We finish off with a lunch at a farm-to-table restaurant that makes contributions to peacebuilding communities though their unique and delicious food.
Travelers on the Weaving Peace tour support initiatives that are contributing to the peacebuilding process from different perspectives. Preserving biodiverse crops throughout Colombia and who work hand in hand with conflict-vulnerable farmer communities through fair trade and association. Promoting productive projects that guarantee opportunities out of war-based economies for previously conflict-involved communities throughout the country. Generating economic inclusion for actors that are transitioning from war-based economies.
