This expedition to the remote Colombian Amazon takes you deep into the Apaporis basin—a remote and sacred territory guarded by indigenous communities. Over five days, you’ll travel by charter flight and riverboat to tepuy formations, ancient rock art sites, and participate in the spiritual ceremony of the Yuruparí. Designed in partnership with local indigenous leaders, this expedition offers a rare opportunity to connect with one of the planet’s most pristine and culturally significant regions.

What to Expect

This is a high-commitment, high-reward trip. You’ll need to travel light, bring your own hammock or tent, and be ready to sleep in basic accommodations in indigenous communities. Days include boat navigation, short jungle hikes (up to 2 hours with your backpack), and visits to sacred sites. Expect no internet, limited access to bathrooms, and meals based on local ingredients like fish, cassava, and jungle fruits.

The itinerary flows with nature and local permissions. While we aim to visit all key sites—including the Guaire-Aricú rock paintings, the confluence of the Kananarí and Apaporis rivers, and the Yuruparí ceremony. Everything depends on weather, river levels, and spiritual approval. This flexibility is part of the experience.

Before confirming your spot, you’ll be asked to attend a group call and complete a short interview to ensure alignment with the expedition’s values and conditions.

Who is this for?

This experience is for travelers seeking raw nature, deep cultural immersion, and spiritual connection. It’s ideal for nature lovers, anthropologists, photographers, or anyone curious about indigenous knowledge systems and cosmology. Participants must be physically able to carry their gear and mentally prepared for remote, low-comfort conditions.

How to get there

You’ll fly commercially to Mitú (Vaupés) from Bogotá. From there, a private charter flight will take you to the Apaporis region (1 hour). Upon landing, the rest of the journey is done by motorized canoe and foot. Charter flights and local transport are included in the trip price.

The Path of the Anaconda: A Closer Look

The Sendero de la Anaconda is not a typical Amazon trip. It’s an expedition into a sacred world. This private experience begins in Mitú, Vaupés, and takes you by charter plane and motorized canoe to one of the most remote corners of the Colombian rainforest. Here, the Apaporis River winds through tepuyes, pictograph-covered cliffs, and ancestral territories rarely open to outsiders.

Traveling with community-appointed guides, you’ll hike to the Guaire-Aricú tepuy (also known as Cerro Morroco), a towering formation with panoramic views and 4,000-year-old rock art. If your travel dates align, you’ll be invited to witness the Yuruparí ceremony: a deeply spiritual event recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance. You’ll sleep in indigenous villages, eat locally prepared food, and live as lightly as possible on the land, always under the guidance and invitation of the territory’s spiritual authorities.

This expedition is limited to just 10 guests per departure and runs only a few times each year. It was born from years of relationship-building and trust between local communities and our team. By participating, you support an emerging model of tourism that protects ecosystems, strengthens cultural identity, and honors the wisdom of the Amazon’s original guardians.

A Glimpse of the expedition

How this expedition creates an impact

By joining the Sendero de la Anaconda expedition, you directly support a community-led model that:

  • Strengthens territorial governance against illegal mining and external threats.
  • Preserves sacred knowledge through respectful cultural exchange.
  • Generates income for indigenous guides, elders, cooks, and youth.
  • Revives intergenerational connections and pride in ancestral traditions.
  • Amplifies local voices through editorial storytelling created with the community.

In 2023, we partnered with the local committee to produce a collaborative editorial project that documents the spiritual, environmental, and cultural significance of this journey—through their eyes. It became more than a media piece—it was a space for memory recovery, reflection, and reaffirmation of identity.
