Description

We live in a country of misty mountains, valleys, very rich soil, and hardworking people. All that together creates the perfect conditions for growing coffee. This has been a major development driver and a reason for pride for every Colombian. As a result, we are one of the main coffee producers and we grow the best arabica coffee worldwide.

In this coffee farm experience, you will travel an hour and a half west from Bogotá going down the mountains to a small town called San Francisco which is at approximately 1500 MASL. At this altitude, the cold weather of Bogotá changes into a temperate and damp climate, which are optimal conditions for growing coffee. You will arrive at El Paraiso, a family-owned coffee farm where you'll be received with a fresh cup of coffee to start the tour. As you sip your coffee, you will be introduced to the farm while you enjoy the mountain views and bird calls before moving on into the first stages of the coffee process.

The first stage is seed sprouting, seedlings, and transplantation to the field. You will learn how coffee plants are treated carefully from the very beginning to assure a good quality producing plant. You will then move onto the coffee crops where you’ll be able to see different coffee varieties and learn how to pick up and select the best coffee cherries. While you walk the fields you will see other plants such as plantains, avocado, orange and tangerine trees that are usually planted close to coffee to benefit both flavor and health.

After picking up some coffee cherries you will move onto processing. You will see how coffee is washed, fermented, and dried depending on the characteristics the coffee farmer wants to enhance. You will see traditional methods of processing and machines that have been used since the coffee boom in Colombia. Finally, you will return to the starting point to sip onto another cup of coffee having understood the entire process required to achieve this marvelous drink and learn more directly from the coffee farmers.

When the farm tour is over you will have a stop at San Francisco’s main square to go for a walk and enjoy a traditional lunch before returning to your hotel in Bogotá.

This was an excellent tour.
★★★★★

This was an excellent tour. The family and staff of the coffee farm were welcoming and gracious with extra cudos for allowing us to visit on Good Friday. We enjoyed expertly prepared coffee and an isightful, educational tour of the farm. We got exercise up and down the irregular landscape of the farm and picking coffee was really fun too. We came away with a real appreciation for the hard job of coffee picking and preparation. A big shout out to our guide Gilardo! He was a none stop wealth of information. A very nice and friendly guy. We consider ourselves lucky to have his guidance a be in his care. This coffee farm tour was the perfect countryside event to round out our 3 and a half days in Bogota

Amazing experience
★★★★★

We were kindly picked up from the hotel. From there we drove to the coffee farm. When we arrived at the farm, we were kindly received by the owner. We saw the farm from his balcony. A beautiful view! A lot was explained in English and Spanish. Then we tasted coffee, but this cannot be compared to Dutch coffee. We experienced the entire process. Very clear explanation and a beautiful farm.
