Description

La Candelaria Walking Tour is designed for travelers who want to discover local lifestyle, food and hidden jewels of Bogotá, getting more than traditional sightseeing experiences. A knowledgeable guide will focus on taking you to places within La Candelaria that still remain off the beaten track. You will learn about Bogota's current issues, social, and economic dynamics, and interesting historical anecdotes.

After meeting the guide at the meeting point near Gold Museum, you will start the tour walking up to Eje Ambiental to learn about the reconstruction and social integration carried out by architect Rogelio Salmona at the turn of the century. You will enter La Candelaria and walk up to Plaza la Concordia, a local market that exhibits the day-to-day vendor/client relations for vegetable and fruit sales. Once out, you will walk through the narrow street of Chorro de Quevedo and stop to try a cup of chicha, a traditional fermented drink made with maize; preparation was inherited from native indigenous ancestors.

Then, you will make a brief visit to the Botero Museum and continue down to Plaza de Bolívar. This main square is home to the most important administrative buildings and the legendary Prime Cathedral. Keeping away from the mainstream area, you will enter a secret alley full of traditional handmade kitchen utensils. The tour will end with a delicious typical Colombian snack as the perfect ending for this experience.

An authentic and gracious tour of Colombia
★★★★★

Impulse Travel put together a wonderful, 10-day trip for us, providing a great introduction to the country’s geography, culture, and ongoing social transition. I can’t say enough about Impulse’s guides, whose personalities really made our trip. They took us to their favorite cafes, hiked with us, bought us exotic fruits to try, and quickly picked up on our interests. While add-on excursions can sometimes feel canned, Impulse’s special activities did not – our coffee-plantation tour, bike riding on Bogota’s traffic-free main streets on Sunday, and visiting with Colombian musicians included spontaneous moments and authentic conversation. Hotel choices were excellent, and travel logistics were seamless (several domestic flights via Avianca, airport pickups, and drivers). Thanks for the work you did, Felipe. We’d love to go back to Colombia, and we’ll turn to Impulse Travel again when we do.
