This tour is for bird lovers, birdwatchers and for those who want to be amazed by nature. Colombia has the greatest avian biodiversity in the world with 20% (1889 species) of all bird species on Earth. This is an extraordinary place where birds are in large-scale walk-in cages, allowing you close contact with the birds.
On this tour, you will go to a significant and unique place, The National Aviary of Colombia. This is a wildlife conservation organization highly interested in preserving endangered species, promoting knowledge about Colombian diversity, its sustainable use, and its responsible management through the use of animal welfare practices.
The tour starts with a hotel pick up at either 9:00 am or 2:00 pm (depending on the departure time you choose) from which you will drive to Barú Island where the Aviary is located. Once there, you will be able to appreciate the 138 bird species and the tremendous job that this Aviary has done to replicate the different ecosystems of the species. This has been crucial to preserving the species, and what is most important, to facilitate their reproduction. Besides the vast area and huge walk-in cages they have opened for visitors, they have a research and reproductive program for endangered species like Harpy Eagle, Andean Condor and the Blue-billed curassow.
As soon as you finish the tour, you will go back to your hotel so you can enjoy the rest of your stay in Cartagena.
Note: The bird show in the aviary takes place at 11:30 a.m. and 03:30 p.m.
