Need a break from discovering the city? Try one of the following cafés in Medellín to lay back a bit and enjoy a unique coffee experience.

Oriental coffee taste in La Taza

All over the world, Colombia is known for its tasty coffee. But inside the country itself, it’s often not that easy to get a really good cup of coffee, because most of the high-quality beans are exported. Luckily there is a coffee culture development happening right now in Colombia. In Medellín, for example, the coffee culture is booming. You’ll be able to enjoy a great variety of delicious coffees prepared in distinct ways. Here is a list of five highly recommended coffee shops in Medellín.

La Taza Tienda de Café

La Taza Tienda de Café

This café takes you far away from Medellín. The owners are specialized in preparing coffee that is not filtered, but very finely ground like it’s done in Turkey. Therefore the coffee has a quite intense taste. If you prefer a cold drink, the Frappuccino de coco is a great choice.
The whole ambiance at La Taza has a Mediterranean touch to it as you can already notice by looking at their logo and their interior design. In this cozy place, you’ll for sure be able to relax a little and just enjoy your coffee. They are open from 11 am to 10 pm from Monday till Thursday, on Fridays and Saturdays you can stay half an hour longer. And on Sundays, their doors open from 1 pm to 8 pm.
Location: Cq 75 #39-33, Laureles

Rituales Compañía de Café

In contrast to La Taza, Rituals is focusing on filtrados. They’ll prepare your coffee either as Aeropress, pour over (V60) or french press. More than that they offer cold brews as well. Since coffee preparation is not happening in a separate room, you can watch how they do it. You’ll notice that making coffee really is an art. The water temperature, for example, needs to be just right in order to prepare a really tasty cup of coffee. Drinking your coffee in this café, you support the local coffee farmers from the neighborhood of La Sierra, as Rituals collaborates directly with them. This collaboration offers a perspective for the farmers and helps to stabilize the situation in La Sierra, which has been known for violence before, but luckily things are changing there.
You can visit Rituals from 8 am to 8 pm.
Location: Cq 74 #39-22, Laureles

Urbania

Another café that focuses on fair trade coffee and sustainability is Urbania. Their Café  Paz (Peace Coffee), which is cultivated in Granada, Antioquia, supports communities that suffered from armed conflicts or natural disasters. So again you can contribute to doing something good just by having a cup of coffee, and it is tasty as well. If you are interested in learning more about coffee preparation, you can also attend barista courses here. Urbania is the only of the here listed cafés, that is not located in the neighborhood of Laureles, but in El Poblado. It’s the place to go to for everyone who needs their coffee right after getting up since they open Monday to Friday from 7.30am. The closing hour is at 8 pm. On Saturday you can get your coffee from 12.30pm to 7.30pm. Sundays Urbania is closed.
Location: Cl 8 #43B-132, El Poblado

Café Paz

Café Revolución

Revolución is emphasizing on Colombian Coffee in general and not from one specific region. The coffee here is recognized for its high quality. Since the owner himself says that the quality of the coffee is best noted drinking an espresso, you should probably try one. But don’t worry if you prefer other coffee varieties. Despite the owner's view on recognizing the quality, they offer a large menu of different coffee drinks, so you’ll definitely find something that fits your taste. They open hours are 8.30am to 7 pm, on Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm.
Location: Cra 73 - cq 4, Laureles

Panorama Taller de Café, Encuadrarte

Looking for a unique ambiance where you can enjoy your coffee? Then Panorama Taller de Café, on facebook you’ll find them under Encuadrarte, is for you. This is the place to go to for all creatives in Medellín. More than just coffee, they offer various workshops, which also explains the name of this place, as Taller means workshop in Spanish. It’s a great place to go to if you like to work on your projects in a relaxed atmosphere and also great to meet and network with other creatives. And just in case you should not feel like having coffee they also offer delicious ginger or watermelon soft drinks. Panorama Taller opens their doors every Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm.
