Description

Traveling to the department of Guainía is an experience that you definitely should not miss! Visiting the hills of Mavecure and the impressive places of this region is a unique opportunity. These famous hills are a rock formation, part of the Guyanese shield, which with more than 4000 million years is one of the oldest geological formations on the planet. In this case, you will see 3 gigantic rocks that embrace the majestic river Inírida. You can ascend to the top of one of these huge monoliths, reaching approximately 250 meters high. For this adventure, we will ask the permission of the indigenous communities, since these rocks are a sacred place for them. Apart from the impressive monoliths, you will visit different rivers and streams found in the area, such as the Orinoco, and the Atabapo among others which are a must-see along with their landscapes, sunsets, and white-sand beaches.

Itinerary

Day 1: Encounter with Ancestral Culture

Arrive in Inírida and prepare for an unforgettable journey to the majestic Mavicure, Pájaro, and Mono hills, located within the indigenous reserves of Remanso and Venado. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the community of Venado and treated to a traditional lunch.

In the afternoon, embark on a circuit through the Mavicure stream, navigating through the white sand savannas. This scenic route will lead you to a small rocky outcrop known as Cerro Tortuga, where you can witness a breathtaking sunset. Enjoy dinner and then settle into your accommodations in a traditional indigenous cabin within the Venado community, experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the local culture.

Day 2: In the Land of the Tepuy

After breakfast, embark on an ascent of Cerro Mavicure, where you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the Guiana Shield's unique landscapes. Following this invigorating hike, enjoy lunch and take a refreshing swim on the white sand beaches along the Inírida River or Caño San Joaquín.

In the afternoon, embark on a curiara (indigenous canoe) journey to observe dolphins in the calm waters of the Inírida River. As the day winds down, savor a delicious dinner and relax in your accommodations within the Venado community's traditional indigenous cabin.

Day 3: On the Path of Sustainability

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before traveling to the Morroco Community to explore the Honey Route. If weather conditions prevent this activity, you will instead embark on a scenic hike across white sand savannas to Cerro Flauta or participate in an experiential workshop on cassava processing.

Next, journey to the headwaters of the Gran Río Orinoco, where you'll marvel at the star-shaped river system of Inírida and its major tributaries: Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo, and Orinoco. Your adventure will culminate at the MORU Natural Reserve, where you'll enjoy a delightful lunch.

In the afternoon, take a refreshing dip in the Atabapo River at Piedra de Maviso, a picturesque area on the border with Venezuela.

Day 4: Exploring Selva Matavén

Start your day with a delicious breakfast before choosing between two thrilling options.

Option 1: Venture into the lush Selva Matavén forests for an exhilarating rappel experience. Climb to a high canopy platform and embark on a daring journey across 15-meter-high bridges, spanning 160 meters through the verdant Amazonian rainforest.

Option 2: Opt for a guided hike through the MORU Natural Reserve to explore the enchanting Selva Matavén forests in the Vichada department.

After your chosen adventure, transfer back to the city of Inírida for check-in. Conclude your journey with a return flight to Bogotá.
