Description

Since ancient times, fermented drinks and liqueurs have been part of local identity and catalyzers for culture, social exchange and spirituality. From precolumbian indigenous rituals to traditional liquor digestives or refreshing brews for social recreation, you will travel through centuries of an impressive History sip by sip.

You will be picked up at your hotel to take you downtown to Parque de los Periodistas (meeting point) where you will be introduced to the city and learn about the strong indigenous past that gave birth to Bogotá’s foundations. Walking through La Candelaria you will learn about the colonial process, independence and the contemporary revival of indigenous traditions. You will visit a very special place for ancestral drinks at the heart of La Candelaria where you will be able to try Chicha, Zhuke, Guarapo and Chirrinchi as you get tips for tasting, and facts relating to ancient rituals and traditions from Colombia’s countryside.

After, you will head North to Palermo where you will go to craft beer pubs specialized in developing distinctive flavors that appeal to the local public. You will learn about beer crafting, beer tasting, and the impressive history that made beer cast off chicha in being Colombia’s most popular alcoholic beverage.

How this tour creates an impact

A part of this immersive experience will be guided by “El Cacha,” a local expert on traditions of the indigenous Muisca culture. He is the owner of La bendita chichería, a local located in the Chorro de Quevedo that celebrates the artisanal preparation and consumption of beverages with an indigenous origin. By connecting with this cultural guardian, you’ll learn the spiritual and traditional background of drinking Chicha and the importance of this drink in Colombian history. We will also visit a "peace" initiative from former FARC members and try one of their many products available at Casa Cultural La Roja
