Description

Chapinero is one of the most popular and commercial places in Bogotá. With a strategic location within the city, this neighborhood not only has a great amount of cultural activity but an impressive offer of delicious gastronomy from the whole country. While you walk the streets of Chapinero, you will get to know iconic recipes of Colombian Gastronomy and learn about their origins and preparation methods at places where locals go.

You will meet your guide at Parque de Los Hippies before moving on to try some arepas, a corn flatbread filled with cheese that will give you a sweet start for your gastronomic journey. After, you will taste empanadas, a savory pastry that contains a delicious meat filling that goes great with ají (a typical hot sauce). This stop for empanadas is at a traditional restaurant that has been open for more than a century and according to many, they serve the best empanadas in town. Heading north you will arrive at Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, an impressive neo-gothic cathedral in the heart of Chapinero. A shortstop can be made here to enter if the cathedral is open and if it suits your interest. Next, you will walk a few steps to taste Pan de Bono and Avena, a typical snack from Valle del Cauca region.

You will continue some streets ahead to drink a delicious cup of coffee prepared by a barista with your method of preference. This coffee is served at Café Cultor, a responsible coffee shop that serves fair trade, organic coffee from various regions of Colombia. Here you will understand why Colombian Coffee is so famous and distinctive in its flavor, and how a preparation method can make a huge difference in highlighting coffee qualities. To give this tour a sweet end you will stop to try unique chocolate truffles filled with delicious fruit jams from Colombia in a place that brings sweet flavors from around the country into a traditional Chapinero house. Here you will also learn about the impressive story of these cacao farmers who left fear and illegal coca-farming behind to produce the most unique and tasty chocolates in Colombia.

How this tour creates an impact

One of the most popular stops on our Chapinero Streetfood experience is Distrito Chocolate, a local chocolate shop with an impressive community-driven purpose. Led by the charismatic Juan Antonio, a group of farmers from the Boyacá region has made an effort over the past years to replace coca crops with cacao. The goal of this initiative is not only to abandon illegal farming but also the violence and sorrow that often comes with it. On the tour, you will be able to taste the delicious chocolate that is the result of resilience and hard work to create a better future for the community and our country.

This tour is part of our HEART experiences.

Chapinero Food Tour
★★★★★

Our walking tour was around the neighbourhood where we were staying in Bogotá. Our guide, Raul, was amazing. Unfortunately, some of the places Raul wanted to take us to were closed because of the Christmas/New Year break. However, Raul had a contingency plan. It was lovely to wander around the Chapinero neighbourhood, learning about the area, eating yummy traditional Colombian food!

Exceptional Service with Impulse Travel
★★★★★

During our stay in Colombia between December 2023 and January 2024, we did a number of experiences which we booked with Impulse Travel. Our consultant, Diego Pulido, was awesome: very attentive and helpful in making our arrangements. It was all arranged via email between Australia and Colombia. Diego always kept in contact, making sure that all my queries were answered and we had all our travel details. All our experiences, which included four day trips, three half days tours and a three day excursion to San Agustin, all went without a hitch. Our guides, Raul Posse, Natanael Tejada and Mauricio Piedrahita, and our driver, Andres Pinzon, were wonderful, knowledgeable and always on time. All our experiences were memorable in themselves, but these individuals made it even more unforgettable. To all the lovely people from Impulse Travel, thanks so much for giving us so many unforgettable memories. To anybody planning a trip to Colombia, please get in touch with the awesome people at Impulse Travel and have a chat to them about your plans. You won’t be disappointed!
