Description

When we talk about Colombia, coffee is probably one of the main things that will come to your mind. After all, we have the perfect climate conditions, rich soil, and a whole culture around to grow it. This tour is designed for those who may not have the time to go on an all-day tour, but are very interested in exploring the behind the scenes of the worldly known Colombian coffee by going to a traditional coffee farm. You will visit a farm that has a small production of high-quality coffee.

On this tour, you will be picked up at your hotel and head to a coffee farm that is 45 minutes away from Medellín. Did you know coffee grows much better at higher altitudes, in this places specifically it’s between 1000m and 1600m above sea level? On our tour, the farmers will teach you everything you need to know about this prized item.

As soon as we arrive you will be received by a kind and warm welcome that will show you exactly what Colombian hospitality is, always joyful and friendly. Then, we will start our tour walking on narrow paths through the coffee plantations and get an idea of how much work it will be to harvest the coffee beans and transport them to finally be sun-dried and processed. Depending on the month of our visit, we will get to see coffee fruits in different stages of their growth. We will also get to know more about the essential climate and why Medellín is a perfect place for growing coffee.

After walking through coffee plantations, you will see different production phases which artisanal coffee goes through, a process that has been passed down through generations and it’s preserved by the coffee farmer (Cafetero) with great responsibility and affection. You will have the chance to look and learn about machines and installments that are used by farmers to choose the best fresh beans, peel and roast them. You will have the opportunity of experiencing how raw peeled coffee bean feels and how they are then roasted manually on a stove.

Finally, we will walk back to the main house, where we will enjoy an exquisite cup of coffee and take a break. You will get the chance to know the main house, which is a beautiful traditional house of the region. Before heading back, you may buy some coffee to take back home.

One of our most memorable trips-and we travel a lot
★★★★★

We had the most amazing tour planned by Juliana with Raoul Posse as our guide in Bogota and Anna Christina in Medellín. The focus was on Weaving Peace had multiple profound experiences, where we witnessed and interacted with people that are working towards and making progress in healing their communities and their country from their painful, violent history. In addition, we went to a coffee farm and had a great bike ride with Marco and Ana Maria outside of Medellín. It was a perfect trip. The guides went the extra mile for us, taking photos, recommending music and attending concerts with us (which was not part of the program). We loved Colombia and plan to return. Impulse Agency was a find and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Just magical
★★★★★

When we decided to visit Colombia I searched for a local agency that was aligned with our interests in culture, history,  both old and contemporary and importantly, social justice. Impulse took care if all of it!! We spent ten days in Bogota and Medellín and surrounds [...] But what really stood out were the incredible guides we had. Raul in Bogota and Marcos, Ana Maria and Ana Cristina in Medellin.  Mature, hip, knowledgeable and fun!! We learned so much. I have only one complaint: we needed more time to explore more of this amazing country. We will be back. And will definitely be using Impulse again!
