Mountain Biking - Panela Trail
Panela is one of the most typical and symbolic products and foods that can be found in Colombia. Several products are produced and derived from sugar cane, both for human and animal consumption, which makes it a highly productive crop since nothing is wasted!
Description
This lanky, tall-stemmed plant is really useful, since the combustion of bagasse can be used to generate electricity, and the distillation of the honeys is used to produce ethanol, vehicle fuel, and liquors such as guarapo, chicha, viche and the famous rum. Its sweet honeys are used to make desserts, candies and beverages, and the plant's fiber can be used to make certified organic paper, which is biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. In addition, pest control by means of chemicals or insecticides is almost not used in its crops due to the high implementation of biological control, making its cultivation a more natural and healthy one for consumption.
This tour starts from Popayán or from the central square of El Tambo where you can easily get there by public bus from Popayán. There you will be welcomed by our local guides who will have a perfect bike for you and after a brief introduction, you will start the route of approximately 16km where almost all the route is downhill and uphill with some flat trails which makes it perfect for any type of cyclist whether expert or beginner as the road is mostly unpaved and there is no car traffic.
