Jardín, which translates to ‘garden’ in English, is a small picturesque town in Colombia’s department Antioquia. It is a colorful and inviting town that is definitely worth the visit! Touristic-wise the town offers calm activities in the town and more active hikes and visits in the surroundings of Jardín.
Town square
The town square is the prettiest spot of the town, inviting residents as well as tourists to have a cup of coffee and enjoy the view of the unique church Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción and the whitewashed colonial houses with their colorful painted balconies and doors.
Another stunning characteristic of the town are the hand-painted chairs that can be found all over the town square and in front of many restaurants. They tell stories about the village and its people or – having symbols like aces or diamonds painted on the back – simply invite to sit down and play a card game.

Pulley "la Garrocha"
This peculiar transport is a cable car that will take you from the village up to a beautiful viewpoint where you can enjoy Jardín from above, surrounded by a lush green environment and embedded between mountains. There is a gondola going up every 30 minutes. The cost per ride is 2,000 COP. There is also the possibility to hike up to the viewpoint and go down with the gondola.
La Cueva del Esplendor
Outside of Jardín, there is the cave of splendor with an amazing waterfall. This stunning wonder of nature can be reached after a challenging trekking tour. However, there is a visitation limit of 40 persons a day and only one tour operator that offers this service.

Trout farm
Just a little outside the village you can visit the imposing trout farm “La Truchería”. There you can taste a specially prepared fish in the restaurant and watch the sports fishers get a catch.
El Salto del Angél y la Cueva de los Guácharos
This awesome cave is surrounded by cascades and houses the Guácharos, a bird species. 20 minutes following up the river that flows through the caves you will find the Salto del Angél waterfall, so these two sights can be easily combined in one trip. You might want to hire a guide, to see both the waterfall and the cave you should at least plan 5 hours.
Jardín is located in the south of Medellín and easy to reach from there in three to four hours by car or bus. The bus ride (e.g. by the company Rapido Ochoa) from Medellín costs around 26,000 COP.
